Social Network Analysis

Social Network Analysis

Mapping the informal social networks within the organization shows what is really happening: Where is communication and collaboration strong? Where are gaps? This helps in managing changes, in knowledge management, and shows the obstacles in the way of maximizing performance.

Let’s look behind the formal structures!

We are all familiar with organizational charts, where continuous, dotted and other lines indicate the connections between departments and people.

But this picture is deceptive. We know and feel that the essential channels are often informal and do not follow these lines at all. Who goes to lunch with whom? Who are friends with whom? Who asks who for help when they get stuck? Who are irreplaceable and who are the ones who live in total isolation?

These informal networks fundamentally determine the functioning and effectiveness of the organization and its ability to evolve and change flexibly when needed.

As a result of Social Network Analysis, you will:
  • See the reality clearly: It sheds light on how the organization actually works – where the critical lines of collaboration are (and are not).

  • Manage change better: You see the centers of influence that you should focus on winning over, and where change will get stuck.

  • Optimize communication and collaboration: You see the bottlenecks and blockages that cause organizational processes to stall.

  • Improve organizational efficiency: The results are improved productivity, faster change, reduced costs in work processes and improved employee satisfaction.

How do we do it?

Our online survey asks employees to rank the people they have direct contact with, in terms of how well they communicate with them, how trusting they are, and how much they can draw strength and motivation from them. This provides a map of who trusts whom, who motivates and inspires whom, from whom they seek advice, support, etc. This data gives us a better picture of the collaborative links across hierarchies and departments. This helps both to optimize existing systems and processes, to remove bottlenecks and to select key people for specific changes.

Our survey is conducted with our strategic partner, the Maven7.hu team.
